Women's Tennis Picked Fifth in NACC Preseason Poll

WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's tennis teams was picked to finish fifth out of 12 teams in the 2013 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll, voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Sabres, who finished fourth and qualified for their sixth conference tournament in the last seven years a season ago, were picked behind preseason favorite, Edgewood. The Eagles garnered 22 first-place votes and 286 poll points in all as it aims for a sixth straight NACC title.

Concordia Wisconsin was picked second with 253 poll points, followed by Wisconsin Lutheran (241), which also claimed the remaining two first-place votes. Dominican (198), Marian (191) and Aurora (171) rounded out the top-six teams.

Benedictine (150), Lakeland (113), Alverno (99), MSOE (73), Concordia Chicago (71) and Rockford (26) made up spots 7-12 in the preseason poll.

The NACC's regular season standings determine the teams that qualify for the six-team conference tournament in the spring, while the tourney champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championship Tournament.

Marian will lift the lid on the 2013 campaign with a home match against visiting Ripon at Buttermilk Creek Park in Fond du Lac on Friday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m.
