FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's tennis (6-5, 3-3 NACC) fell to Purdue Northwest before sweeping Ripon in non-conference action.
Purdue Northwest, a Division II school that competes out of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after doubles action and would take the first four singles spots. Freshman Brenda Ordonez then took home a win at No. 5 singles taking the first set 6-2 and the tiebreak 10-7. Junior Andrea Krahenbuhl also needed a tiebreak at No. 6 singles but won the first set 6-4 and the decisive third 10-7.
Due to heat, the second match of the day against Ripon would be shortened to one set each. Juniors Meg Hartzell and Celeste Degeneffe earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, sophomore Mackenzie Meyers and junior Kristin Houle also won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and junior Alyssa Ostrowski teamed up with Krahenbuhl for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Then in singles action, freshman Kyrsten Bruce earned her first career No. 1 win with an 8-5 win. Meyers at No. 2 singles and Ordonez at No. 5 singles each won 8-1, while freshman Erica Counter earned a clean sweep at No. 6 singles. Freshman Emma Lewandowski, No. 3 singles, and Houle, No. 4 singles, had a little tougher time but each won 8-6.
Marian is next in action when they return to NACC action hosting MSOE Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. from Buttermilk Creek Park.
