Marian tennis has trio honored by NACC

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Freshman Kyrsten Bruce, sophomore Mackenzie Meyers and senior Meg Hartzell have all been honored by the NACC announced the league office Friday.

After leading Concordia Wisconsin to a regular season conference championship, Ashley Solberg was named the Player of the Year, while Falcon head coach Steve Anschutz was named the Coach of the Year.

Bruce provided stability for the Sabres in both singles and doubles action and was named the Freshman of the Year.  The Round Lake, Ill. native finished the fall season 8-6 in singles action primarily competing at the No. 3 spot and 7-7 in doubles action primarily at the No. 2 flight.  Bruce would go on to a 6-3 record in conference action for both singles and doubles action.

Hartzell was named to the All-NACC singles team for the third time in as many years and also earned a spot on the All-NACC doubles team for a second consecutive season.  The junior went 6-8 during the fall season at the No. 1 singles spot for Marian and went 5-4 in NACC action.  Hartzell went 10-5 overall in doubles action, 5-3 at No. 1 doubles and 5-2 at the No. 2 flight, with a 6-3 record in NACC action. 

The Oshkosh, Wis. native was named to the All-NACC doubles team with her primary partner Meyers.  Meyers and Hartzell went 3-2 in NACC action finishing the fall season 4-3 overall with all of their competition coming at No. 1 doubles.  The duo will enter the spring season with wins in four of their last five matches.

The Sabres clinched a home match in the NACC Tournament for a second consecutive season as the No. 4 seed and will host Wisconsin Lutheran Monday, April 30.  The Sabres open the spring portion of their season Saturday, April 7 at Lake Forest where MU will take on LFC and North Park.
