MILWAUKEE - Marian University women's tennis picked up 171 total votes putting the Sabres in fifth according to the NACC preseason poll, as voted on by the head coaches and sports information directors of the league.
Concordia University Wisconsin was picked to win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women's tennis championship after capturing their third consecutive NACC title last year with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play, topped the 20-win plateau overall (20-6). The Falcons earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship after winning the NACC Tournament for the third straight season.
CUW received 14 of 22 first-place votes and 231 points in the preseason poll. Edgewood College was second with 218 points and four first-place votes, while the Illinois Institute of Technology took third with 186 points and the final four No. 1 votes.
Milwaukee School of Engineering was fourth with 171 points, Marian University fifth with 153 points and Wisconsin Lutheran College sixth with 140. Alverno College (97), Aurora University (92), Lakeland University (89), Dominican University (45) and Concordia University Chicago (30) rounded out the final five spots in the poll.
The Sabres are coming off a 10-11 season marking only the fourth time in program history the Sabres reached double-digit wins. Marian once again qualified for the NACC Tournament reaching the semifinals and hosted a postseason match for only the second time in program history.
The NACC's regular season standings determine the teams that qualify for the six-team conference tournament, while the tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championship Tournament.
