Sabres Close Out Buc Blast with Two Tough Ones

BELOIT, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Following a Friday sweep to start 2-0, the Marian University women's volleyball team dropped matches to a pair of MIAA opponents, Hamline and Macalester, to finish the Beloit Buc Blast Tournament with a 2-2 mark.

The Sabres lasted four sets against Hamline, winning the second set, 25-20, while the Pipers took the other three 25-20, 25-18 and 25-12. Katlin Jarvis recorded eight kills with two solo blocks, while Aileen Maier added nine kills. Anna Smit tallied seven kills and Katie Reimer dished out 35 assists with 17 digs.

In the nightcap, Macalester proved too much, sweeping Marian in three straight. The Sabres played each set close, but the Scots were victorious 25-23, 25-23 and 25-19. Smit led the way with a double-double, tallying 11 kills and 11digs. Katrina Jansen also had 11 digs.

Marian falls to 2-2 on the young season and will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 4, when they travel to Ripon to take on the Red Hawks and Mt. Mary at 3 and 5 p.m., respectively.
