AURORA, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak in Northern Athletics Conference play with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 14-25, 25-15) road victory over host Aurora University this afternoon, Sept. 29.
The Sabres posted a solid .189 hitting percentage led by an impressive 22 kills from Anna Smit, who recorded a .474 hitting clip with just four errors. Carlie Kinsey added 11 kills, while Katie Reimer dished out 39 assists. Marian was solid on the defensive end as well, putting four Sabres in double figures in digs and tallying 21 total blocks as a team, led by Katlin Jarvis' 12.
Marian improved to 11-9 overall, 3-2 in the NAC, while Aurora fell to 7-9 (3-2 NAC).
The Sabres took the first two sets handily, while totaling 20 team kills in the first set alone. Aurora responded with a 25-14 win in the third set as it held the Sabres to just an .037 hitting percentage. However, Marian would answer with a convincing fourth set win, 25-15, to wrap up the match, holding the Spartans to -.108 hitting with 10 errors.
Reimer tallied her ninth double-double of the season with match-highs in assists (39) and digs (19). Anna Smit's 22 kills gave her 182 for the season, good for an average of nearly three kills per set this season.
The Sabres will be back in action this Tues., Oct. 2, to take on Alverno. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. inside Sadoff Gymnasium in Fond du Lac.
