RIVER FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The sixth-seeded Marian University volleyball team was succumbed to a Northern Athletics Conference tournament first round exit after third-seeded Dominican University was victorious in straight sets at home (25-13, 25-15, 25-12), inside the Igini Sports Complex, this evening, Oct. 30.
The host Stars hit .333 as a team and held the Sabres to just .011 from the floor as they advance to play second-seeded Benedictine in the quarterfinal round. Jacy Lawrence led all hitters with 11 kills, while Christina Wilson dished out 28 assists and three Stars reached double-digit digs. Marian was led by Anna Smit's eight kills and Katie Reimer's 18 assists and nine digs.
Dominican improves to 24-7 on the season, while Marian finishes its season at 14-15 overall.
The Stars used a very strong first set triumph to build momentum for the entirety of the match, hitting .560 with 14 kills on 25 attempts with zero errors on the way to a 25-13 set win.
The second set didn't go as cleanly, but the result was similar. DU recorded 17 kills on 36 attempts and committed six errors, but was able to hold the Sabres to .111 hitting and took the set, 25-15.
Seeking the first round sweep, the Sabres didn't do themselves any favors by committing 10 errors in the final set. Meanwhile, a .220 hitting percentage on 13 kills paced the Stars with a 25-12 final set win.
