FOND DU LAC - No. 3 Marian University ACHA hockey (22-1-1, 12-0-0 NCHL) easily swept Michigan Tech to open the second half of the season defeating MTU 13-1 in both games.
The Sabres jumped out early on Michigan Tech scoring four goals in the first period of the opener. Marian would add five goals in the second period to pull away and put up another four-spot to secure their sixth game of scoring double-digit goals. Kirill Proskurin and Connor Rosaasen led the Sabres in the victory with five points apiece as Rosaasen recorded a hat trick. Connor Martin and Jarod Lang joined Proskurin with multi-goal games in the victory. As a team, every skater who dressed for the game recorded at least one point.
The Marian offense continued to churn as the Sabres scored eight goals in the opening period, four of which were separated by only 3:48. The Sabres went on to add four goals in the second period and only one goal in the third period to set the final at 13-1 for their seventh game of double-digit goals.
Paul Kinder had a hand in eight of the Sabre goals with one goal and seven assists to lead the offense, while Proskurin put up four goals and two assists for six points. Martin closed out the weekend with a hat trick as he finished with five points and Colin Wilson recorded a multi-goal game.
Justin Davidson earned the victory in both games for the Sabres making 10 saves in the opener of the series and following that up with a 17-save performance in the finale.
Marian took time prior to the finale to recognize their five senior members, Jake Weldon, Daniel Roe, Wilson, Proskurin, and Davidson, who helped start the program and build it to powerhouse we see today.
The Sabres take on Marquette in a home-and-home series with Marian hosting the opener Friday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m. With just one victory in the series the Sabres will clinch their second regular season championship in program history and clinch the top seed for the Hap Cup Tournament.
