WAUKESHA, Wis. - Marian University baseball has swept both NACC weekly awards announced the league office Monday night.
Sophomore Zachariah Sandoval provided Marian a pair of complete game efforts only allowing one earned run over 16.0 innings for a 0.56 earned run average. The right-hander had an especially dominant start against Rockford where he tossed 9.0 innings only allowing a pair of hits and one unearned run. Sandoval also closed out the weekend with 14 punch outs for a 7.88 strikeouts per nine innings average. In his 32.0 innings pitched in conference action this season, Sandoval has boasted a 1.41 earned run average and a 0.9 walks and hits per inning pitched average.
Senior Jordan Walker went 11-of-22 at the plate as he helped lead Marian to a 5-1 record for the week. The senior infielder drove in seven runs for the week and scored eight times as he continued his hot hitting at the plate. The Sabre had five extra-base hits for the week including a pair of doubles in the opener against Dominican University where he went 5-of-5 with three runs scored and three driven in. Walker also had a .593 on-base percentage to go with a .773 slugging percentage to complete his slash line. Defensively, he was perfect on all 22 of his chances.
Marian is in action tomorrow when they travel to Concordia Chicago for a NACC twin bill beginning at 1 p.m. The Sabres will be designated as the home team in both games.
