FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (15-20, 11-7 NACC) was defeated by Ripon 5-2 in a rain-shortened non-conference game to close out the home portion of the schedule for the Sabres.
Ripon took the early lead in the game with consistency scoring a run in the second and a run in the third before putting up three runs in the fifth to lead 5-0. The Sabre offense struggled through the first four innings only managing one hit but the Sabres finally go ton the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Freshman Josh Gates opened the inning with a double before junior Cole Clark singled to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Sophomore Aaron Schauer then was able to bring in Gates with a fielder's choice. Freshman Sean Meyer would bring in Schauer with another fielder's choice in the seventh inning before Mother Nature came into play and caused the game to be called.
Freshman Logan Bosquez and junior Brady Nehring combined for 2.2 innings of relief work only allowing three hits and one unearned run. Five different Sabres recorded hits in the defeat with senior Hunter Berry being the lone Sabre to reach safely twice finishing 1-for-3 with a walk.
Marian is scheduled to travel to Lawrence tomorrow, Thursday, May 3, for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
