SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Marian University baseball (11-8, 3-5 NACC) scored eight runs in the first three innings to defeat Lakeland 10-0 in seven innings.
Marian wasted no time putting runs on the board scoring four runs before Lakeland even took their first swings. Sophomore Sean Meyer would double in a pair of runs down the right field line before senior Matt Nordlund doubled in another pair of runs to close out the inning.
Junior Jake Arens then padded the lead in the second with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season. Sophomore Nick Dugandzic would bring in Meyer with a single later in the inning as Marian led 7-0 after two innings. In the third, junior Nick Bastien scored as senior Travis Slywka got caught in a run down to bump the Marian lead to 8-0.
A Slywka home run in the fifth, his second of the season, and another RBI double from Dugandzic in the sixth then set the final at 10-0.
Sophomore Garrett Martin (3-1) had a strong start on the bump going 6.0 innings allowing just two hits and striking out 11. Meyer paced the offense going 4-for-4 with three runs and a pair of runs driven in. Dugandzic also had a strong game going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in.
Marian is scheduled to return home and take on Maranatha Baptist in a 6 p.m. non-conference game Friday, April 12.
