Fast start not enough for Sabre men's basketball

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's basketball (2-6, 1-5 NACC) led at halftime but fell to Concordia Wisconsin by an 81-66 final.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 16-8 lead to open the game before Marian rattled off 14 consecutive points to take a 22-16 advantage over the Falcons with 9:33 left in the first half.  Sophomore Tavaris McCullough had six of the points during the run, while junior Will Polczynski added five.  The Sabres would hold the lead the remainder of the half but a 12-4 run from the Falcons to close out the half cut the Sabre lead to 33-32.

The Sabres shot 14-26 (.538) in the opening half and held the Falcons scoreless from beyond the arc.

The Falcons came out strong in the second half taking a 17-point lead with a 27-9 run.  The Sabres were able to fight back, however, as Marian managed to go on a quick 8-2 run immediately following to cut the deficit down to 11.  The Sabre defense continued to pick things up forcing several stops but struggled to score on the other end before Concordia Wisconsin was able to pull away late.

Marian outshot CUW for the game going 27-55 (.491) from the field including 7-22 (.318) from beyond the arc.  Sophomore Tristan Van Ess went a perfect 7-7 from the field finishing with a game-high 18 points.  Right behind him was McCullough who finished with 16 points to go with eight assists and three steals. 

Marian closes out the weekend hosting Martin Luther at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, December 16.
