FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's basketball (4-11, 2-8 NACC) led for most of the game but a late push led Wisconsin Lutheran to a 64-63 win.
The first half opened tight before Marian used a 12-3 run late to take a 32-22 lead with 1:55 left in. Following a Warrior timeout, Wisconsin Lutheran would score three unanswered points to send the the Sabres into the locker room with a 32-25 advantage.
The second half was all about momentum as the Warriors were able to come out fast and cut the Sabre lead down to one at 37-36 with 13:40 left to play. A three-pointer from sophomore Matt Shaw then capped off a 16-4 Marian run that gave the Sabres their largest lead of the game at 53-40 and 9:22 left to play.
Wisconsin Lutheran responded scoring 12 unanswered points and eventually took their first lead of the half at 58-57 with 3:39 left to play. The lead bounced back-and-forth but Wisconsin Lutheran would take a late lead after making eight of their last 10 free throws in the game. Marian would create three opportunities to retake the lead in the final 22 seconds but nothing fell leading to the 63-63 final.
The Sabres closed out the game with a 32-20 advantage in points in the paint after shooting 25-56 (.446) from the field.
Senior Tyrese Pinson led the way with a team-high 24 points off of 9-13 (.692) shooting, and nearly missed a double-double with eight rebounds. Sophomore Tristan Van Ess also almost had a double-double with 14 points and eight boards.
Marian went 14-29 (.483) from the field in the half, while playing well defensively holding the Warriors to only 10-29 (.345) shooting.
