MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's lacrosse (12-4, 8-3 MLC) needed overtime but was able to earn the No. 3 seed for the upcoming conference tournament with a 9-8 win over MSOE.
The Sabres and Raiders went toe-to-toe in all four quarters with neither team holding a lead after any stanza. Freshman Colt Robertson scored the only Marian goal in the first quarter with Robertson and fellow freshmen Finn Maloney and Erik Horman all scoring in the second quarter.
Robertson continued his dominant day scoring both Marian goals in the third quarter. The Raiders were able to take a two-goal lead with 8:52 left in the fourth quarter before Horman and sophomore Jeremy Eisele scored to force overtime.
In the extra stanza, freshman Vincent Mercadante was able to win the opening faceoff and Marian was able to score just 15 seconds in with Horman finding the back of the net with an assist to sophomore Nick Klotz.
Robertson finished having a hand in six of the Marian goals with four goals and a pair of assist, while Horman recorded a hat trick. Sophomore Tommy Gerlach led the defense picking up seven ground balls and forcing two turnovers.
Freshman Johnny Estrada (11-4) closed out the regular season with another strong performance making 13 saves on 21 shots.
Marian will take on the No. 2 seed Aurora for a 7 p.m. start Wednesday, May 1 in the MLC semifinals.
