Sabre men's soccer ties Regents from Smith Field

Marian huddles before the game.

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's soccer (4-7-2, 2-5-1 NACC) scored first, but a late equalizer from Rockford led to a 1-1 tie.

Neither team found the back of the net in an opening half that saw Rockford outshoot the Sabres 11-2.  The Sabres didn't waste much time in the second half, however, as their first shot of the half went into the back of the net off of the foot of junior Josiah Kusik.  The goal was his first of the year and came after he went streaking down the left side of the field and found enough space in the box to send a shot.

The Sabres and Regents went back-and-forth until the momentum shifted towards Rockford in the final 10 minutes.  Rockford was eventually able to put enough pressure on the Sabre defense to score in the 87th minute and send the game to overtime and the eventual tie.

In the extra periods, Rockford held a 4-1 advantage in total and closed out the game with a 26-9 edge in shots over the Sabres.  Senior Ian Chacon (4-6-2) put together another impressive performance in goal stopping 12 shots in the game.

Marian hits the road for the final time traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7 p.m. kickoff Wednesday, Oct. 17.
