Brandon Ruis starts his serve

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's tennis (0-3, 0-0 NACC) fell to St. Norbert 9-0 before being defeated by Buena Vista 8-1 to open the traditional portion of their season.

As they did in the fall, the Green Knights were able to easily handle the Sabres taking a sweep.  Ryan Biffert had the best match for Marian falling 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot, while Brandon Ruis dropped his No. 2 match 6-3, 6-0.  The Sabre played much better in their second match in as many days but could still only manage to take one set against Buena Vista.  The duo of Biffert and Zach Stanczyk nearly took the No. 2 doubles flight falling 8-5 as Marian trailed 3-0 heading into singles action.

At the No. 3 flight, Biffert was able to get the first win of the season for Marian with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.  Coy Paulson took the opening set of his No. 4 match 6-3 but his opponent was able to rally to defeat him in three sets with a 6-1 win in the second set and a 10-6 tally in the tiebreaker.

Marian is next in action traveling to UW-La Crosse for a noon start Sunday, March 25 in non-conference action.
