Sabre men's volleyball goes four sets with No. 5 Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - Marian University men's volleyball (10-11, 8-5 NACC) fell to No. 5 Benedictine in four sets with set scores of 22=25, 25-11, 25-20, and 25-21.

The Sabres opened the match strong as Marian was able to take the opening set of the match.  The Sabres were able to jump out to a quick 10-4 lead to open the set building their lead out to 20-14.  Benedictine was able to cut their deficit down to two but a kill from senior Jon Smallpage clinched the set.

The rest of the match, however, was all Eagles as Benedictine would hit .344 or better and Marian would not be able to hit better than .200 in any remaining set.  Marian was able to show life in the fourth set trailing only 20-19 after a 5-1 run but Marian was unable to force a fifth set after the Eagles went on a 5-2 run to close out the match.

Smallpage closed out the match with a team-high 13 kills, while senior Cullen Liberski had a match-high 10 digs in the back row.   Freshman Liam Skinner led the Sabres at the net with four block assists.

Marian remains on the road traveling to Lakeland Wednesday, March 27 for a 7 p.m. first serve in NACC action.
