Sabre men's volleyball goes four sets with No. 10 MSOE

Ben Walter goes up for a block.

MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's volleyball (10-13, 8-7 NACC) closed out a five-match road trip falling to No. 10 MSOE in four sets 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-16.

The Sabres opened the match strong with a first set that saw neither team manage a lead larger than three points.  MSOE would lead 23-22 late in the set before Marian scored three-consecutive points to take the set capped off by a pair of service aces from senior Ben Walter.

The second set was similarly tight to start leading to a 10-10 tie before MSOE used a 6-2 run to create just enough cushion to take the set.  The Sabres were able to fight off a pair of set-point opportunities before MSOE was able to even the sets.

The Raider defense then took care of business holding Marian to single-digit kills in the third and fourth set.

Senior Jon Smallpage paced the offense for Marian with a team-high 15 kills, while freshman Liam Skinner hit .714 with five kills and three block assists.  Defensively, senior Cullen Liberski had a match-high 20 digs with senior Joey Dittman recording 14 digs and 30 assists for a double-double.

Marian closes out the regular season hosting nationally-ranked Dominican Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. from Sadoff Gym.
