Sabre track and field completes outdoor season at NACC Championships

LISLE, Ill. - A total of 14 personal records were set as Marian University track and field concluded their outdoor season at the NACC Championships.

Three school records would be set over the weekend highlighted by Colin Wilson who competed in the javelin for the first time and finished in sixth place with a toss of 42.89 meters.  Another field event record went down when Miera Smith finished in 19th place in the long jump after a leap of 4.43-meters.  Cynthia Ottesen set the final school record in the 100-meter hurdles when she clocked in with a time of 21.74.

Smith proved to have a busy weekend with strong finishes in three other events as well.  Her 13.78 seconds in the 100-meter dash was good for 14th and she posted a similar 14th place finish in the 200-meters after finishing in 28.96 seconds.  Smith concluded her meet in the triple jump where she finished 10th with a jump of 10.30 meters.

Joining Smith in the long jump pits was Kadeesha Duncan who finished in 22nd place with a jump of 3.99 meters and Ben Franzke who came in 16th place at 5.79 meters.

The Sabres were also able to get strong finishes for both the men and women in the long-distance events.  Alexis Brost and Alyssa Zuhlke had a photo finish in the 1,500 meters with Brost finishing in 16th at 5:42.07 and Zuhlke crossing at 5:42.96 right behind her.  Zuhlke then competed in the 5,000 meters where she finished in 10th with a time of 5:42.96.  On the men's side, Jacob Leiden led Marian in the 1,500 meters when he crossed the line in 17th with a time of 4:38.25.
