RMU second half shooting too much for Marian

CHICAGO - Marian University women's basketball (1-8, 0-4 NACC) started fast but a second half push from Robert Morris was too much in a 64-47 non-conference loss.

The Sabres started the game off to a hot start as MU claimed the lead right out of the gate. After opening the game with an 8-3 run, the Eagles closed the gap to two at 10-8 with the Marian defense holding RMU to 3-18 (.167) shooting.

The second quarter proved to be another back-and-forth quarter with the Sabres adding on to their slight lead.  Senior Nicole Paulus would have a big quarter to lead MU scoring 12 points with a perfect 3-3 (1.000) shooting from the field and 6-6 (1.000) from the charity stripe.  The offensive quarter gave the Sabres a 27-24 lead heading into the half.

Robert Morris would use the break to come back in the third quarter to bring the Sabre lead within one at 34-33 with 5:01 left in the quarter. The Eagles then took their first lead of the game with an 11-0 run to end the quarter 42-36.

The Eagle hot shooting continued into the final quarter as RMU was able to close out the game going 10-18 (.556) from the field putting the final at 64-47.

Paulus led the offense with Marian scoring a team-high 18 points.

Marian concludes 2016 at home Saturday, December 31 when they welcome NACC foe Dominican University to Sadoff gymnasium for a 1 p.m. tip.
