Marian women's tennis earns historic win over UW-Stevens Point

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's tennis (4-2, 2-0 NACC) defeated UW-Stevens Point 8-1 for the program's first victory over a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponent.

The Sabres opened the match with a sweep of all three doubles matches highlighted by a tiebreak victory at No. 2 doubles.  Celeste Degeneffe and Brenda Ordonez earned the second flight victory 9-8 after a 10-4 tiebreak.  The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles flights were each 8-2 victories for Marian with Meg Hartzell and Emma Lewandowski teaming up at the top flight and Kyrsten Bruce and Erica Counter taking No. 3.

Each singles match was a sweep with the Sabres taking all but the No. 2 flight.  Hartzell secured a sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1, while Bruce won her No. 2 flight 7-6, 7-5 tiebreak, 6-4. Degeneffe also earned a sweep on the day with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles and Kristin Houle won the No. 5 flight 6-3, 6-0.  Ordonez had the most convincing victory at No. 6 only dropping one set at 6-0, 6-1.

Marian closes out the weekend hosting Lakeland Saturday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. from Buttermilk Creek Park in NACC action.
