Women's Volleyball Jumps Out to 2-0 Start

BELOIT, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team started the 2012 campaign strong with straight sets non-conference victories over MSOE and Presentation on the first day of the Beloit Buc Blast Tournament, today, Aug. 31.

The Sabres start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2000 when they defeated Illinois Wesleyan and UW-La Crosse to open the year.

Marian took down MSOE with set wins of 27-25, 25-19 and 25-22. Carlie Kinsey led the Blue and White with nine kills, while Anna Smit added seven kills and 15 digs. Katie Reimer tallied a double-double with a match-high 30 assists and 15 digs. Ashley Zumbrock and Katrina Jansen each contributed 14 digs as well, while Aileen Maier recorded seven kills.

In the second match, the Sabres dismantled Presentation 25-10, 25-13 and 25-11. Kinsey led the way with eight kills, while Maier added six kills and Smit chipped in seven kills and eight digs. Reimer handed out 30 assists in the win as well.

Tomorrow, the Sabres will take on Hamline and Macalester at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
